Laurence J. Kotlikoff, professor of Boston University, assures that United States is in bankruptcy and measures as increasing spends or downing taxes will not help to the country to pay its debts. FMI has said United States needs a yearly budget adjustment of 14% of GDP to compensate the fiscal gap. Kotlikoff says the present situation is a consequence of applying the so called Ponzi scheme during many years, taking resources from young people to give them to old people in the promise of the next generation will pay the bill.
Three possible solutions are unpopular. 1. Massive cut down of jubilees' benefit. 2. Strong increasing of taxes, which could affect young people because they wouldn't incentives to work and save. 3. To flood the world with dollars. These three options will suppose an increase of poverty, of taxes and of prices.

Según el FMI, EE.UU. necesita un ajuste presupuestario anual para compensar la brecha fiscal del 14% del PIB. Kotlikoff afirma que la actual situación se debe a la aplicación durante mucho tiempo de lo que se llama el esquema de Ponzi, que consiste en destinar recursos de los jóvenes a los mayores con la promesa de que la siguiente generación pagará.
Las posibles soluciones son impopulares. 1. Un recorte masivo de los beneficios de los jubilados. 2. Una fuerte subida de los impuestos que afectaría a los jóvenes ya que no tendrían incentivos para trabajar y ahorrar. 3. Inundar el mundo con dólares. Estas tres opciones supondrán un aumento de la pobreza, de los impuestos y de los precios.
