Dos importantes temas polarizan la sexagésima sexta reunión de la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas: la reconstrucción de Libia y la presentación a la Asamblea de la solicitud de la Autoridad Nacional Palestina para que Palestina sea considerada el estado 194 de las Naciones Unidas.
El Consejo Nacional de Transición libio está representado en la ONU por Mustafá Jalil. El Presidente del CNT ha declarado en la ONU que la lucha contra el régimen de Gadafi ha costado la pérdida de 25.000 vidas y más de 50.000 heridos. Ha agradecido a la ONU y a los países que han intervenido en las operaciones la ayuda ofrecida para combatir contra las fuerzas de Gadafi. El Presidente Obama por su parte la indicado que Estados Unidos trabajará estrechamente con la Misión de Apoyo de las Naciones Unidas en Libia para ayudar al pueblo libio en el duro camino que le queda por delante. Nicolás Sarkozy por su parte ha declarado que ‘corresponde a los libios y a nadie más decidir cuál será el futuro de Libia’.
Por otra parte, el próximo viernes la Asamblea tratará de la petición de la ANP sobre Palestina. Mahmoud Abbas, Presidente de la Autoridad Nacional Palestina pronunciará un discurso al que seguirá la entrega de la carta sobre la petición al Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas. Benjamín Netanyahu se ha opuesto a la declaración unilateral de la ANP y el Presidente Obama ha declarado que la paz se consigue con conversaciones entre palestinos e israelíes y no con resoluciones.
